Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is rotated on your device and never sent to a server. You can disconnect from the internet once the page has loaded and it still works.

Does rotating reduce the quality?

Not by default. The rotation is written into the MP4 as rotation info and the picture is copied untouched, so the quality is exactly what you filmed. Only the optional burn-in setting re-encodes the picture.

When do I need "Burn the rotation into the picture"?

Almost never. Every current phone, browser, social network and portal reads rotation info. Tick it only if a particular old player or editing program still shows the video sideways — the pixels are then turned for real, which takes longer.

Which formats can I rotate?

MP4, MOV (including iPhone HEVC clips), M4V, WebM and MKV. The rotated video is saved as an MP4. Apple ProRes recordings are not supported in the browser yet.

Can I rotate a video on my phone?

Yes. It works in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android — tap Choose video, pick the direction and download the MP4.
