Is the background remover free?

Yes. Removing the background and downloading the result is free, with no watermark, no signup and no limit on how many photos you do. It runs in your browser, so it costs us nothing to offer.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The AI model runs inside your browser, so the photo and the cutout never leave your device. The only download is the model itself, once. The one exception is the optional HD cutout on paid plans, which is processed on our servers and deleted within minutes.

What kinds of photos work best?

One clear subject that stands out from its background: a person, a pet, a product, a car, a piece of furniture or a house with sky around it. Busy scenes with several overlapping objects are harder — the model picks the most prominent one.

How do I get a white background?

Choose White under Background and download a JPG — handy for marketplaces and ID-style headshots. Colour lets you pick any brand colour; Transparent gives you a PNG to place on your own design.

What resolution is the result?

Up to 2048 pixels on the long side, which is plenty for flyers, social posts and presentations. Larger photos are scaled down to that size before the cutout.

What is the HD cutout?

Paid plans get a second, much larger AI model running on our servers. It handles fine hair, trees and houses better than the in-browser model. Your cutout appears instantly and then sharpens on its own a few seconds later — there is nothing to click.
