DWG is the drawing format of AutoCAD® and many other CAD programs. It holds the lines, arcs, texts, dimensions and layers of a technical drawing, such as a floor plan, a site plan or a section.

Which AutoCAD® versions can it open?

DWG files saved by AutoCAD® 2000 up to 2027 — every DWG format in use today — and DXF files from R12 to 2018. Many files from R14 or older open too; if one doesn't, save it as DXF or a newer DWG in your CAD program.

No. The file is read on your device, in your browser. It isn't sent to Pixly or anyone else, so it's safe to open clients' drawings.

Can I measure distances?

Yes. Click Measure, then two points; the ends snap to corners. The length is shown in the drawing's own units (millimetres, metres, feet and inches) with metres alongside.

Why does something look different from AutoCAD?

The viewer draws the model space in 2D with a standard font. 3D solids, embedded images, external references (xrefs) and paper-space layouts aren't shown, and the panel lists anything it left out.

Can I save the drawing as a PDF or an image?

Yes: a PDF on A4, A3 or Letter with the scale printed, a PNG up to 4096 pixels, or an SVG. Only the layers that are switched on are saved.

Does it work on a phone or a Mac?

Yes. It runs in any current browser (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox) on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android. Pinch to zoom, drag to move.
