Synopsis

When jobless Tommy Collins discovers that sequestered jurors earn free room and board as well as $5-a-day, he gets himself assigned to a jury in a murder trial. Once there, he does everything he can to prolong the trial and deliberations and make the sequestration more comfortable for himself.

Jury Duty (1995) is loosely based on TV series Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose. Twelve Angry Men was rewritten for the stage in 1964 under the same title: Twelve Angry Men (1963). The teleplay was also adapted for a feature film in 1957 by Sidney Lumet12 Angry Men (1957).

The film was nominated for Most Painfully Unfunny Comedy at the 1995 Stinkers Bad Movie Awards but lost to Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995). Additionally, Pauly Shore "won" a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor.

 

Critic Roger Ebert said that Pauly Shore was the "cinematic equivalent of long fingernails, drawn very slowly and quite loudly over a gigantic blackboard"
